Presiden Recep Tayyip Erdogan pada Selasa (19/11) membenarkan bahwa Turki menutup wilayah udaranya untuk pesawat pemimpin Israel, Isaac Herzog, yang berencana menghadiri KTT PBB di Baku.
Surat kabar Turki Milliyet yang mengutip sumber diplomatik Israel dan Turki, Ahad (17/11), melaporkan bahwa Herzog tidak dapat mendarat di Azerbaijan untuk menghadiri Konferensi Perubahan Iklim PBB (COP-29) di Baku lantaran penolakan Turki untuk membuka wilayah udaranya bagi pesawat tersebut.
“Kami tidak mengizinkan pemimpin Israel menggunakan rute udara kami. Kami katakan terdapat opsi lain. Kini kami harus mengambil sikap tertentu pada beberapa isu dan kami akan melakukannya,” kata Erdogan saat konferensi pers.
Pada awal November Presiden Erdogan mengumumkan pemutusan hubungan diplomatik Turki dengan Israel dengan alasan karena Israel untuk enggan menghentikan operasi militer di Jalur Gaza.
Erdogan juga menyatakan bahwa Turki tidak berniat untuk memulihkan hubungan tersebut di masa mendatang.
