Satu lagi raksasa teknologi global yang mau menanamkan modal di Malaysia. Kali ini ada Oracle yang rencananya akan investasi lebih US$6,5 miliar (Rp 98 triliun) untuk mendirikan infrastruktur cloud regional pertamanya di Malaysia.
Cloud regional adalah lokasi fisik dan geografis tempat fasilitas cloud perusahaan berada. Usaha patungan Oracle ditetapkan menjadi salah satu investasi teknologi tunggal terbesar sejauh ini, melampaui investasi sebesar US$6,2 miliar oleh unit cloud Amazon, AWS, yang diumumkan tahun lalu.
Cloud regional Oracle diklaim akan membantu organisasi di Malaysia memodernisasi aplikasi mereka, memindahkan beban kerja mereka ke cloud, dan berinovasi dengan data, analitik, dan AI.
Hal itu juga akan memungkinkan pelanggan perusahaan Malaysia yang meliputi lembaga pemerintah, lembaga keuangan, dan perusahaan penerbangan dan perhotelan, untuk menggunakan layanan cloud yang berbasis di dalam negeri ketimbang di luar negeri.
“Pelanggan tersebut berharap Oracle mendukung inovasi mereka untuk beralih ke proses standar agar lebih cepat, lebih terkendali, dan lebih hemat biaya,” kata Wakil Presiden Eksekutif Oracle untuk Jepang dan Asia Pasifik Garrett Ilg, dikutip dari Reuters, Rabu (2/10/2024).
Cloud regional di Malaysia akan menjadi yang ketiga bagi Oracle di Asia Tenggara, setelah dua fasilitasnya yang berlokasi di Singapura. Saat ini, Oracle memiliki 50 wilayah cloud publik di 24 negara.
Sebelumnya Oracle, ada Microsoft, Nvidia, Google dan ByteDance yang telah mengumumkan investasi digital senilai miliaran dolar ke Malaysia sejak tahun lalu.
Investasi tersebut sebagian besar digunakan untuk membangun layanan cloud dan pusat data, yang mendorong ledakan infrastruktur karena meningkatnya permintaan untuk kecerdasan buatan (AI).
