Menteri Perindustrian (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita bercerita nasib pembatik yang sempat harus tiarap dan harus alih profesi. Dia pun mengaku terenyuh saat mendengar cerita tentang pembatik asal Kudus yang ramai-ramai alih profesi menjadi buruh di pabrik rokok.
Katanya, fenomena itu terjadi pada tahun 1990-an sampai dengan tahun 2005 silam.
“Ketika saya berkeliling dalam pameran, saya menemukan satu cerita yang miris, tetapi endingnya cukup melegakan, yaitu cerita batik dari Kudus,” kata Agus dalam acara peringatan Hari Batik Nasional (HBN) ke-15 Tahun 2024 di Jakarta, Rabu (2/10/2024).
“Saya mendapat laporan bahwa pada sekitar tahun 1990-an animo dari anak-anak muda Kudus, para pekerja di Kudus terhadap atau untuk menjadi pembatik itu semakin lama semakin hilang. Karena sebagian besar dari penduduk Kudus lebih memilih menjadi pekerja di pabrik-pabrik rokok. Batik Kudus hampir punah,” sambungnya.
Untungnya di tahun 2005, animo kepunahan itu bisa terselamatkan berkat kerja sama dari berbagai pemangku kepentingan. Karena itu, ia pun mengaku lega.
“Tapi Alhamdulillah, atas kerja sama dari berbagai stakeholders. Termasuk juga apa yang sudah diupayakan oleh Kemenperin, yang mengupayakan agar batik dan pembatik di Kudus bisa kembali terlihat hasilnya. Dan kita bisa sampaikan bahwa sejak tahun 2005, terlihat bahwa batik Kudus sudah mulai rebound,” ucap Agus.
Lebih lanjut, Agus berharap ke depannya Kemenperin maupun pihak terkait lain bisa segera mendeteksi apabila sudah mulai terlihat tren kepunahan pembatik di daerah-daerah penghasil batik.
“Kita harapkan bahwa di daerah-daerah lain juga kita bisa segera mendeteksi apabila ada tren bagi pembatik-pembatik di daerahnya yang lebih cenderung untuk memilih pekerjaan lain, nanti negara atau pemerintah akan masuk di situ,” kata Agus.
Dalam upaya mendukung hal tersebut, Kementerian Perindustrian bersama Yayasan Batik Nasional, serta mitra-mitra terkait melakukan sejumlah beberapa program, mulai dari focus group discussion (FGD), program penumbuhan wirausaha baru, program fasilitasi indikasi geografis, pendampingan teknis produksi, hingga memberikan fasilitas mesin dan peralatan bagi pembatik.
